I have often bragged that I’ve never submitted one of my ads to an ADVERTISING AWARD contest. Advertising that wins awards almost always FAILS to win customers with checks in the mail. Why? Because when someone sees a good ad… I mean a really good ad… he does not say “Wow, that’s a good ad.” Instead, he says, “Wow, I want that product.”

Award winning ads are judged by other creative types based on “look” and “feel”… they don’t give a damn about ROI.

Pay attention: Advertising is not suppose to be in the “expense” side of the ledger. If you’re a good marketer, you know that good advertising is an asset. The only way to judge an ad is– did the damn thing make money???

What kind of ads, mailings or web sites make money? They are the ones with a convincing story… persuasive offer… benefit-packed copy… Etc. Your graphics and flash must not get in the way of the selling message.

With those thoughts in mind… Somehow… way back.. I did win some awards for my work in the ad agency business. But I swear it was not because other graphic artists thought my ads “looked cool”… No… it was because I made my clients money. Sometimes I lost my shirt doing so. It takes time, effort, money and research to create a marketing package that wins customers, sales and profits. So, take a look at some awards I picked up and some testimonials I collected.
